“It’s okay. You were swimming.”

“Usually I’d do something with it, but I didn’t have the time tonight,” Kate said apologetically.

“I think you look nice,” Teddy said. “You always look nice.”

Kate appreciated the words, but still wished she looked more presentable. “Randi get home okay?” she asked.

“Yes,” said Teddy. “Strangest thing, though. I could swear that a car followed me all the way to her house and then back here.”

The cops, Kate thought. Still on the scent of the Brinks truck robbery. “I can’t imagine who it could have been, Teddy. But you know, cars tend to all look the same at night.”

Teddy’s eyebrows dipped downward. “They do?”

Kate quickly decided that it was time to change the subject. “So, did she try to get you to come in?”

Now Teddy chuckled. “What do you think?”

“I have to hand it to her,” Kate said. “You can’t say she doesn’t act on her beliefs.”

“Uh, true that,” Teddy said, and they both smiled because it was such an un-Teddy-like thing to say.

“Can I get you something to drink?” she asked.

“No, thank you.”

Kate took a sip of her rum and Coke. “So I’m just curious, how did you resist Randi’s invitation?”

“Well, we were in my car in her driveway and I was trying to convince her to get out and she was, well, being rather insistent about staying, and then, unfortunately, her parents arrived.”
